Road Scholar/Elderhostel
DKG members demonstrate a love of learning and a love for traveling. Adventure in lifelong learning can be experienced by attending one of Road Scholar's 5,500 programs in all 50 states and 150 countries around the world. Road Scholar is the name for the programs developed and offered by Elderhostel, Inc., the not-for-profit world leader in lifelong learning since 1975. In 2010: Elderhostel renamed its programs Road Scholar. "Road" connotes a journey and real-world experience, and "Scholar" reflects a deep appreciation for learning. Together the words capture the heart of the program experience: learning from expert instructors, enhanced by direct discovery of an idea, issue, subject or place.
The Elderhostel Personal Growth Grant was established at the Spring 1992 Workshop in Casper. It was the idea of State President Glenda Reynolds. Dona Gates made the initial contribution. Monies for the grant are contributed by Society chapters as their thank you to the State President for her visit or by members and chapters wishing to contribute. A Wyoming DKG active member 55 years old or older can be awarded up to $500 for the program of her choice.
